LOS ANGELES — The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) rumor mill is hitting a fever pitch as Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo recently addressed his potential future with Marvel Studios.
In a recent red-carpet interview at the Golden Globes on January 12, 2026, the Sing Sing and Euphoria star confirmed he has had a “beautiful meeting” with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. While the actor remained tight-lipped about a specific role, his comments have reignited intense speculation about which iconic character he might bring to life in live-action.
The Search for the “Right Thing”
Domingo, known for his commanding screen presence and emotional depth, emphasized that any move into the MCU would need to be purposeful.
”I want it to be very intentional and specific,” Domingo told MTV’s Josh Horowitz. “I want to know exactly what I’m doing. I don’t want to just do anything.”
This follows a year of heavy rumors linking the actor to the role of Kang the Conqueror, a character whose future was left in flux after Marvel parted ways with Jonathan Majors. However, Domingo has consistently expressed a desire to “build something from the ground up” rather than stepping into a pre-existing role, effectively cooling the Kang replacement theories.
Potential Roles: From Villainy to Mentorship
Fans and industry insiders have several theories on where Domingo could land within the sprawling multiverse:
- Norman Osborn (Green Goblin): Domingo already voices Osborn in the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Fans are clamoring for him to transition the role to live-action, a move the actor has called “cool” and something he’d love to “tear up on the big screen.”
- Professor X (Charles Xavier): With the X-Men’s arrival in the MCU imminent, Domingo has become a top fan-cast for the leader of the mutants.
- Doctor Voodoo (Jericho Drumm): Some speculate he could join the supernatural side of the MCU, potentially appearing in the long-awaited Blade reboot.
Why It Matters
Marvel is currently in a transitional phase, pivoting toward Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). Securing an actor of Domingo’s caliber—who has recently seen success in The Running Man and the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic—would be a major win for the studio as it looks to ground its high-stakes storytelling with veteran talent.
For now, the actor says there has been “nothing since” that initial meeting with Feige, but he remains “patient.” Given the timing of upcoming productions like Black Panther 3 (rumored title Shadows of Wakanda), an official announcement may not be far off.
