Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can breathe a sigh of relief: Peter Quill isn’t finished with his walkman just yet. Following the teaser at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return,” Chris Pratt has officially confirmed he is in active talks with Marvel Studios to make good on that promise.
In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (January 2026), Pratt revealed that he has already pitched a specific, “really strong vision” for the character’s future to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
A New Direction for Peter Quill
While Pratt remained tight-lipped on the specific plot details, he expressed immense confidence in the new direction for the character. “I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do,” Pratt stated. “And I think it’s f***ing great.”
The actor hinted that the story would likely pick up from Quill’s current status—living a relatively quiet life on Earth with his grandfather. Pratt noted that this new setting creates a “more interesting” and “sad” conflict for the hero, as he navigates a world he hasn’t truly lived in since he was a child.
When Will He Return?
Despite the excitement, the exact timing of Star-Lord’s reappearance remains “liquid.” While rumors have swirled about potential cameos in 2026 projects like VisionQuest or the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Pratt has been careful not to confirm any specific dates.
Life After James Gunn
One of the biggest questions surrounding Star-Lord’s return is who will be behind the camera. With James Gunn now leading DC Studios, Pratt acknowledged that a return to the Guardians world would feel different. While he called working with Gunn a “dream world” scenario, he expressed total openness to working with new directors, citing his positive experience working with the Russo Brothers on previous Avengers films.
Pratt concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the franchise’s long-term future: “I’m down to contribute any way I can to them setting up the next 10 years of storytelling.”
