LOS ANGELES — Production has officially begun on the highly anticipated female-driven comedy The Fifth Wheel, directed by Eva Longoria and starring Kim Kardashian in her first leading feature film role. Netflix confirmed the news this week, releasing a series of first-look images that offer a glimpse into the star-studded production currently filming in Los Angeles.
The Plot: A Vegas Reunion Gone Wrong
Written by the comedic duo Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live, Sisters) and Janine Brito (Girls5eva), the film follows a group of high school best friends who attempt to reconnect during a weekend getaway to Las Vegas.
The group’s carefully curated bonding time is thrown into chaos when a “hot outsider”—the titular “fifth wheel,” played by Kardashian—crashes their weekend. Her arrival forces the friends to confront their messy lives, questionable decisions, and the fraying threads of their long-term friendships.
A Powerhouse Ensemble Cast
Kardashian is joined by a veteran lineup of comedic talent and fan-favorites:
- Nikki Glaser: The stand-up sensation fresh off her acclaimed performance at the Tom Brady Roast.
- Brenda Song: The former Disney star continuing her recent run of streaming hits.
- Fortune Feimster: The beloved comedian and Fubar star.
- Jack Whitehall, Casey Wilson, and Scott MacArthur round out the supporting cast.
Behind the Camera
The project marks Eva Longoria’s second time in the director’s chair for a feature film, following the success of her 2023 directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot. Longoria is also producing through her banner, Hyphenate Media Group, alongside industry heavyweights Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum of Gloria Sanchez Productions.
”The Fifth Wheel, starring Kim Kardashian, Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster, Brenda Song, and directed by Eva Longoria, is now in production,” Netflix announced via social media, showcasing behind-the-scenes photos of the cast on set.
Kim Kardashian’s Acting Pivot
While Kardashian is no stranger to the screen, The Fifth Wheel represents a significant milestone in her transition from reality TV mogul to serious actor. This follows her well-received roles in American Horror Story: Delicate and the Hulu legal drama All’s Fair.
Netflix has not yet announced an official release date, but the film is expected to be a major tentpole for the streamer’s 2026 comedy slate.
