LOS ANGELES, CA – The “King of the Dinosaurs” is returning to his roots. Netflix has officially unleashed the first trailer for The Dinosaurs, a groundbreaking four-part documentary series executive produced by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
Premiering on March 6, 2026, the series promises to be the “definitive” prehistoric event, reuniting Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment with the award-winning team behind Life on Our Planet.
A Voice of Authority
In a move that has already delighted fans, Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman provides the narration for the series. His iconic voice guides viewers through the 170-million-year rise and fall of these ancient titans, marking his third major collaboration with Netflix’s natural history unit.
Visual Effects by ILM
To bring the creatures to life with unprecedented realism, the production enlisted Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). The trailer showcases stunningly detailed renderings of:
- Apex Predators: A terrifyingly realistic Tyrannosaurus rex and the armored Ankylosaurus.
- Ocean Giants: Leviathans like the Pliosaurus and the Mosasaurus prowling prehistoric seas.
- New Discoveries: Lesser-known species based on the latest fossil research, including the tiny Marasuchus and early feathered fliers like Anchiornis.
Series Details at a Glance
The documentary is designed to be a “spiritual successor” to Life on Our Planet, focusing exclusively on the dinosaur lineage from the Triassic period to the final extinction event.
Behind the Scenes
The series is directed by Nick Shoolingin-Jordan and showrun by natural history veterans Dan Tapster, Keith Scholey, and Alastair Fothergill. By combining cutting-edge CGI with the latest paleontological findings, the creators aim to move beyond “movie monsters” to show dinosaurs as living, breathing animals.
”This isn’t just a monster movie,” said showrunner Dan Tapster. “It’s a deep dive into the evolution, survival, and ultimate fate of Earth’s most successful inhabitants.”
