NEW YORK CITY — Dust off your fedoras and stay out of the light. Amazon MGM Studios has finally pulled back the curtain on its gritty, 1930s-set Marvel thriller, Spider-Noir. Starring Nicolas Cage in his first-ever leading television role, the series promises a “hard-boiled” reimagining of the web-slinger that leans more into Dashiell Hammett than Peter Parker.
Cage reprises the character he voiced in the Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse, but with a live-action twist: he plays Ben Reilly, a cynical, down-on-his-luck private investigator in Depression-era New York who is forced to confront his past as the city’s only superhero.
Choose Your Lens: Black & White or Color
In a unique stylistic move, Prime Video announced that the entire 8-episode series will be available in two distinct formats:
- “Authentic Black & White”: For the classic, shadowy film-noir aesthetic.
- “True-Hue Full Color”: For a vibrant, cinematic look at the 1930s.
The Cast and Rogue’s Gallery
The series isn’t just a solo act for Cage. The supporting cast brings several heavy hitters to this alternate-universe New York:
- Brendan Gleeson as the ruthless mob boss Silvermane.
- Lamorne Morris (New Girl) as a young, ambitious Robbie Robertson.
- Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy, a nightclub singer and reimagining of the Black Cat.
- Jack Huston as the formidable Flint Marko (known to comic fans as Sandman).
Behind the Scenes
The show is being spearheaded by showrunners Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher), with Spider-Verse architects Phil Lord and Christopher Miller serving as executive producers.
