BURBANK, CA — Following the massive success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the shadowy organization that has loomed over the MCU since 2008 is finally stepping into the spotlight. Recent reports suggest that Marvel Studios is actively developing a standalone project centered on the Ten Rings, potentially mirroring the format of the upcoming Eyes of Wakanda series.
While Marvel has been tight-lipped about the “Multiverse Saga” timeline adjustments, industry insiders indicate that this new production will explore the organization’s sprawling influence throughout human history.
A Legacy of Shadows
The Ten Rings organization was first introduced in the original Iron Man (2008) as the group responsible for kidnapping Tony Stark. However, it wasn’t until 2021 that the true power behind the curtain, Xu Wenwu, was revealed.
The upcoming project is rumored to be an anthology-style series (potentially animated) that will depict how the Ten Rings interacted with major MCU milestones across the centuries. Rumored historical touchpoints include:
- Ancient encounters with the Eternals.
- Early 20th-century conflicts involving the Red Room.
- The organization’s clandestine operations during World War II.
The Xialing Era
The project is also expected to bridge the gap between the past and the current state of the MCU. In the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi, we saw Xu Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) take the throne of her father’s empire, signaling a “new era” for the group.
”She’s not her father, but she’s certainly not a traditional hero either,” says MCU analyst Alex Perez. “This series could finally show us what Xialing’s version of the Ten Rings looks like—and if they are truly done with their terrorist roots.”
Where Does This Fit?
Marvel’s 2026 slate is already crowded with heavy hitters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the buildup to Avengers: Doomsday. With director Destin Daniel Cretton currently busy with the Wonder Man series and the next Spider-Man film, this Ten Rings project allows the franchise to expand without requiring his immediate presence on a live-action sequel set.
As of February 2026, Simu Liu is confirmed to return as Shang-Chi in the next Avengers installments, but this spin-off could serve as the crucial world-building link fans have been waiting for since 2021.
