GOTHAM CITY – The rumor mill is in overdrive following reports that Hollywood icon Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations to join the cast of Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel, The Batman Part II.
If the reports are confirmed, Jackson would be making a historic leap from the Marvel Cinematic Universe—where he has spent nearly two decades as Nick Fury—to the dark, grounded streets of Robert Pattinson’s Gotham.
Avengers Assemble in Gotham?
The news of Jackson’s potential involvement has sent shockwaves through the fan community, largely because he isn’t the only Marvel alum linked to the project. Rumors have recently intensified regarding other major additions to the “Bat-verse”:
While Warner Bros. and DC Studios have yet to officially confirm these deals, the prospect of seeing the “founding trio” of the MCU transition to a rival franchise has sparked a massive debate among fans. Some are hailing it as a “casting masterstroke” by director Matt Reeves, while others have jokingly dubbed the sequel “The Avengers: Gotham Edition.”
Who Could Jackson Play?
Speculation is already rampant regarding which character the 77-year-old legend might embody. Given the gritty, noir aesthetic of the first film, fan theories include:
- Calendar Man: Some fans have pointed to Jackson’s “Mr. Glass” persona as a blueprint for a chilling, intellectual version of Julian Day.
- Lucius Fox: A more traditional choice, though perhaps too similar to roles Jackson has played in the past.
- A New Crime Lord: With Carmine Falcone gone, a power vacuum exists in Gotham that Jackson’s commanding presence could easily fill.
Production Update
Despite the casting frenzy, the road to the sequel has seen its share of delays. Currently, The Batman Part II is slated for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
Production is reportedly gearing up to begin principal photography in April 2026 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK. Returning stars include Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne), Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), and Andy Serkis (Alfred).
”We are working exceptionally hard on a story that feels fresh, intense, and dangerous. The bar couldn’t be higher.”
— Mattson Tomlin, Co-writer of The Batman Part II
