NEW YORK — The trading floor is staying open for one last round of high-stakes chaos. HBO officially announced today that it has renewed its critically acclaimed finance drama, Industry, for a fifth season. However, the news is bittersweet for fans: the network also confirmed that Season 5 will serve as the series’ final chapter.
The renewal comes just 24 hours after the explosive Season 4 finale, “Both, And,” which aired Sunday night to record-breaking numbers for the franchise.
Leaving the Party on a High
Creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay released a joint statement explaining that the decision to end the show was a creative one, rather than a cancellation.
”This March marks ten years since we first envisioned the world of Industry,” said Down and Kay. “We’ve been thinking for some time about how to conclude the story on an unparalleled high. Unlike some of our characters, we know when it’s time to leave a party.”
The series, which debuted in 2020, has grown from a cult favorite into a powerhouse for HBO. Season 4 saw a significant 30% jump in global viewership compared to the third installment, averaging 1.7 million viewers per episode in the U.S. alone.
What to Expect in Season 5
While specific plot details are being kept under “NDA,” the Season 4 finale left several major character arcs in flux:
- The Duo Returns: Lead stars Myha’la (Harper Stern) and Marisa Abela (Yasmin Kara-Hanani) are confirmed to return to anchor the final season.
- The Fallout: Following the collapse of the fintech firm Tender, fans are eager to see the repercussions for the surviving Pierpoint staff.
- Cast Changes: While regulars like Ken Leung (Eric Tao) and Harry Lawtey (Robert Spearing) have been central to the show, the finale suggested major shifts in their career paths that will likely define the final episodes.
A Legacy of Ambition and Excess
Produced by Bad Wolf, Industry has been hailed as the “spiritual successor” to Succession, praised for its hyper-dense financial dialogue and unflinching look at power, class, and the moral gray areas of London’s elite banking sector.
”Under Mickey and Konrad’s singular vision, Industry has solidified itself as a genre-bending staple of the HBO lineup,” said Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Executive Vice President of Programming. “We are so proud to take this journey to its conclusion.”
