LOS ANGELES — Get ready to head back to the court. Netflix has officially announced that the second season of its breakout sports comedy Running Point will premiere on April 23, 2026.
The series, which stars Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, the first female president of the fictional NBA team the Los Angeles Waves, quickly became a fan favorite after its debut last year. Created by the powerhouse team of Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, the show blends high-stakes sports management with the messy, comedic dynamics of a dysfunctional billionaire family.
New Playbook, New Drama
Following the dramatic conclusion of Season 1, which saw the Waves suffer a heartbreaking late-season loss, the new episodes find Isla under more scrutiny than ever. No longer the “surprise choice” for the job, she must fight to prove her leadership isn’t just a fluke while navigating a wide-open head coach position and a complicated love triangle involving her former fiancé, Lev (Max Greenfield), and coach Jay Brown (Jay Ellis).
Adding fuel to the fire, Isla’s eldest brother and former president, Cam Gordon (Justin Theroux), is back in the mix after a chaotic stint in rehab, quietly maneuvering to reclaim his throne.
Returning & New Faces
Fans can expect the full starting lineup to return, alongside some heavy-hitting guest stars:
- Returning Cast: Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, and Chet Hanks.
- New for Season 2: Comedy legends Ray Romano and Ken Marino are set to join the cast, bringing fresh energy to the front-office antics.
A “Girlboss” Slam Dunk
Loosely inspired by the real-life story of LA Lakers owner Jeanie Buss (who also serves as an executive producer), Running Point has been praised for its sharp wit and authentic “behind-the-scenes” feel of the professional basketball world.
With Season 2 just around the corner, viewers are eager to see if Isla can “rip up the game plan” and lead the Waves to a championship—or if her family’s power plays will cause her to foul out.
