WELLINGTON, FL – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are doubling down on the “sport of kings.” In a surprise announcement today, March 24, 2026, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions confirmed it is partnering with Netflix and the creators of Gossip Girl to produce a scripted drama series set in the elite, high-stakes world of professional polo.
The move marks a strategic shift for the couple, moving from documentary-style content into scripted “prestige” television.
The Project: Rivalry and “Messy Dynamics”
The currently untitled series is set in Wellington, Florida—the unofficial winter capital of the polo world—and will delve into the lives of two rival polo families.
- The Vision: Described by insiders as an “upstairs-downstairs” drama, the show aims to look past the glamorous facade of the sport to explore the grit, competition, and complex family legacies behind the mallet.
- Creative Powerhouse: Archewell is co-producing with Fake Empire, the production company led by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (the duo behind Gossip Girl and The O.C.).
- The Writer: Francisca X. Hu (Teacup, The Magicians) has been tapped to pen the script and serve as executive producer.
From Documentary to Drama
The announcement comes two years after the 2024 release of the Netflix docuseries Polo, which followed real-life players like Nacho Figueras. While that documentary provided a fly-on-the-wall look at the U.S. Open Polo Championship, this new project will use those same settings to tell a fictionalized, character-driven story.
Reaffirming the Netflix Partnership
Today’s news also serves as a public rebuttal to rumors of a rift between the Sussexes and the streaming giant.
”Archewell has been a thoughtful and collaborative partner… they bring a unique, global perspective that aligns with the kinds of impactful projects our members respond to.”
— Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer (Statement issued March 2026)
Why Polo?
For Prince Harry, the project is deeply personal. An avid player for decades, the Duke has often used the sport as a vehicle for his charitable work, most notably through Sentebale. By transitioning the subject into a scripted drama, the couple appears to be aiming for a broader “soapy” appeal—similar to the success of shows like Yellowstone or Succession—while staying within a world they know intimately.
Production is expected to begin in Florida later this year, with a tentative release window for late 2027.
