LONDON — Netflix has greenlit a high-stakes political action-thriller series titled The Lords’ Day, with Snowfall star Damson Idris set to lead the cast and serve as an executive producer.
The six-part series is an adaptation of the 2007 best-selling novel by Michael Dobbs, the author behind the original House of Cards. This marks a significant return to the Dobbs library for Netflix, whose 2013 adaptation of House of Cards helped establish the platform as a major player in original prestige drama.
A Siege in the House of Lords
Set against the backdrop of the State Opening of Parliament, the series follows Harry Jones (Idris), a British spy who finds himself trapped inside the Palace of Westminster when the building is seized by foreign terrorists.
As a hostage siege escalates within one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks, Jones must navigate a deadly game of survival. The official logline teases a “lone-wolf” mission where loyalties are tested, and not everyone will emerge alive. Adding a layer of intrigue to the character, Harry Jones is described as a “convicted traitor”—making him an unlikely and complicated savior for the British government.
The Powerhouse Creative Team
The project is being produced by Bad Wolf, the acclaimed UK production company behind hits like Industry, His Dark Materials, and the current era of Doctor Who.
“The New Generation of Spy”
The casting of Idris, who recently starred alongside Brad Pitt in the blockbuster F1, has drawn comparisons to the long-running search for the next James Bond. Critics are already calling this Netflix’s attempt at a “21st-century spy franchise,” noting that Dobbs has written five subsequent novels featuring the Harry Jones character that could serve as future seasons.
”Damson Idris has built a reputation for intense, charismatic performances,” noted one industry analyst. “Putting him at the center of a Westminster siege thriller gives this project immediate global weight.”
Production Status
The series is currently in active pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin in the United Kingdom in Spring 2026. While no release date has been set, the project is expected to be a flagship title for Netflix’s 2027 slate.
