NEW YORK – This week marks a massive transition in the comic book industry as we flip the calendar to April 2026. With major publishers launching new eras and celebrating massive anniversaries, Wednesday’s “New Comic Book Day” is set to be one of the busiest of the year.
From the long-awaited debut of a new Daredevil creative team to a historic crossover between the “Big Two,” here are the top five comic books hitting shelves this week.
1. Daredevil #1 (Marvel Comics)
The Man Without Fear enters an “unprecedented new era” this Wednesday. Written by Stephanie Phillips with art by Lee Garbett, this relaunch finds Matt Murdock in a status quo fans have never seen before. A mysterious new villain named Omen has targeted Hell’s Kitchen, and the debut issue promises to unearth secrets that have been buried in the neighborhood for decades.
2. Eternals 50th Anniversary Special #1 (Marvel Comics)
Celebrating half a century of Jack Kirby’s “King of Comics” vision, this oversized special is a must-have for cosmic fans. The issue features an elite roster of creators, including Ralph Macchio and Dale Eaglesham, and introduces a brand-new character: The Lost Eternal. This mysterious addition is teased to “shake the foundations of the Marvel Universe.”
3. Superman 2026 Annual: Year One Thousand (DC Comics)
DC’s All-In saga continues to expand with this high-concept annual. Centered on the Legion of Super-Heroes, the story jumps forward to the year 1000 to explore the enduring legacy of the Man of Steel. It serves as a narrative bridge for the upcoming Absolute Crisis event slated for later this year.
4. Royals #1 (Image Comics)
For those looking for a fresh indie hit, Image Comics debuts Royals from the creative team of Derek Kirk Kim and Jacob Perez. The story follows twin brothers Paul and Castor, who have used their uncanny telepathic connection to become the most successful poker hustlers in the world—until their “perfect hustle” attracts the wrong kind of international attention.
5. G.I. Joe #21 (Image/Skybound)
The “Energon Universe” continues to be a juggernaut for Skybound. This week’s issue is a major milestone as Storm Shadow and Scarlett finally reunite. Writer Joshua Williamson has been weaving a tight web between the Transformers and G.I. Joe mythos, and this issue is rumored to contain a massive reveal regarding the secret history of Megatron.
Honorable Mention: DC/Marvel: Superman/Spider-Man #1
While technically released last Wednesday, this “Facsimile and New Story” one-shot remains the top-selling book in shops this week. Featuring a lead story by Brad Meltzer and Pepe Larraz, it pits the world’s most iconic heroes against a teamed-up Lex Luthor and Norman Osborn.
