In a move that’s left fans revving with frustration, Prime Video has officially pulled the plug on Motorheads, the YA drama that blended first love, family tension, and street racing into a high-octane coming-of-age tale. Despite strong audience engagement and critical praise, the streamer has opted not to renew the series for a second season. But the story may not be over just yet.
Created by John A. Norris and starring Michael Cimino, Melissa Collazo, Ryan Phillippe, and Nathalie Kelley, Motorheads debuted on May 20, 2025, with a ten-episode run. The show followed teen twins Zac and Caitlyn as they moved to Ironwood, Pennsylvania, and discovered a passion for racing under the guidance of their uncle Logan, a former NASCAR driver. With themes of heartbreak, identity, and adrenaline-fueled rebellion, the series quickly found a loyal fanbase—especially among viewers drawn to its emotional depth and nostalgic Americana grit.
Despite never cracking Nielsen’s Top 10, Motorheads maintained a steady presence in Prime Video’s daily rankings, even reentering the Top 5 just days before its cancellation was announced. Critics gave it a respectable 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences responded with a glowing 95% approval rating. Completion rates were high, signaling that those who started the show stuck with it—an increasingly rare feat in the binge-and-burn era of streaming.
Executive producer Jason Seagraves expressed disappointment but remained hopeful: “We set out to make a show with no agenda and a lot of heart, to give families something they can watch together… Our passionate and vocal fan base made the series impossible to ignore. Their enthusiasm has energized us and we’re optimistic we’ll find a home that believes in and supports the show”.
With Amazon’s blessing, producers have begun shopping the series to other platforms. While no new home has been confirmed, the buzz surrounding Motorheads—especially on TikTok and X—suggests that the engine isn’t dead yet. If another streamer picks it up, fans may still get to see where Zac and Caitlyn’s journey leads next.
For now, Motorheads joins the growing list of critically admired YA dramas that struggled to find footing in a crowded streaming landscape. But with its unique blend of emotional storytelling and street-racing swagger, it may yet burn rubber on a new track.
