Starz has ignited anticipation for its upcoming gladiator drama Spartacus: House of Ashur by releasing a striking set of first-look images, revealing a blood-soaked return to the brutal world of Roman politics and arena warfare. The series, a bold reimagining of the Spartacus universe, is set to premiere with a two-episode debut on December 5, followed by weekly Friday releases across Starz platforms.
Created by original showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, House of Ashur poses a provocative question: What if Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) had survived the events of Spartacus: Vengeance and been rewarded by the Romans with control of the very gladiator school that once enslaved him? The newly released images showcase Ashur’s rise to power, now ruling the ludus once owned by Batiatus, and navigating the treacherous world of Roman politics where betrayal is currency.
Among the standout visuals is the introduction of Achillia (Tenika Davis), a fierce gladiatrix whose battles against the headstrong Tarchon (Jordi Webber) promise to redefine the spectacle of combat. Achillia marks the franchise’s first female gladiator lead, signaling a fresh direction for the series. Other characters featured include Korris (Graham McTavish), now a trainer, and a host of new faces such as Hilara (Jamaica Vaughan), Messia (Ivana Baquero), and Cossutia (Claudia Black).
The photos hint at a series rich in political intrigue, visceral action, and emotional stakes, with DeKnight teasing a five-season roadmap that could expand the Spartacus legacy well beyond its original run. With advancements in visual effects and a cast blending returning veterans and dynamic newcomers, House of Ashur is poised to deliver a fresh yet familiar brand of historical drama.
For fans eager to revisit the original saga, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena, Vengeance, and War of the Damned are all available to stream on Starz.
