Hollywood, October 22, 2025 — The sands of time are shifting once more. Universal Pictures has confirmed development on The Mummy 4, with original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning to their iconic roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan. The sequel marks a dramatic revival of the beloved franchise nearly two decades after its last installment.
According to reports from ScreenGeek and IMDb, the studio is actively developing the project with both Fraser and Weisz attached. The film will continue the story arc that began with 1999’s The Mummy, which redefined the classic horror property into a swashbuckling adventure saga. The last entry, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, was released in 2008, and fans have long speculated about a potential reunion.
A teaser trailer for The Mummy 4 surfaced online in February, sparking excitement across social media. The footage, though unofficial, hinted at a return to Egypt and the resurrection of ancient forces once thought buried forever.
Fraser, fresh off his Oscar win for The Whale, has expressed enthusiasm for revisiting the role that helped define his career. “Rick O’Connell was the kind of hero who didn’t take himself too seriously,” Fraser said in a recent interview. “I’m thrilled to dive back into that world—with Rachel by my side, it’s going to be magic.”
Weisz, who skipped the third film, is reportedly excited to reprise her role as the brilliant and daring Evelyn. Her return signals a return to the franchise’s original chemistry, which helped make the first two films enduring fan favorites.
While plot details remain under wraps, insiders suggest the new film will blend the franchise’s signature mix of action, humor, and supernatural peril. Universal is said to be courting original director Stephen Sommers, though no official confirmation has been made.
The Mummy franchise has grossed over $1.25 billion worldwide and spawned spin-offs, animated series, and a devoted fanbase. With Fraser and Weisz back in the saddle, The Mummy 4 promises to be more than just a nostalgic throwback—it’s a resurrection.
