Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Taraji P. Henson has officially signed a two-picture deal with Netflix, marking a major expansion of her creative partnership with the streaming giant. The agreement will see Henson not only headline two upcoming films but also serve as producer through her banner TPH Entertainment, reinforcing her commitment to telling emotionally resonant, globally impactful stories.
The announcement follows the success of Straw, Henson’s first lead role in a Netflix original, which premiered in June 2025. Directed by Tyler Perry, the film earned critical acclaim and spent five weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies (English), amassing over 106.3 million views. Henson portrayed Janiyah Wiltkinson, a single mother navigating a day of escalating chaos while caring for her ill daughter—a performance praised for its raw intensity and emotional depth.
In a statement, Henson shared her excitement: “Partnering with Netflix on this two-picture deal is an exciting new chapter for me. I’ve always believed that storytelling has the ability to inspire, heal, and celebrate our shared humanity. With a partner like Netflix, I have the opportunity to do that on a global stage. I’m grateful for their trust in me as we start this new journey together.”
The deal also signals Henson’s growing influence behind the camera. Through TPH Entertainment, she aims to develop projects that center underrepresented voices and explore themes of resilience, identity, and cultural connection. Her next slated appearance is in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third installment in the popular franchise, where she joins Perry and other returning cast members.
Netflix’s continued collaboration with Henson reflects its broader strategy of partnering with high-profile talent to deliver compelling, character-driven content. With her dual role as actor and producer, Henson is poised to shape narratives that resonate across audiences and genres.
