In a move that reshapes the future of Gotham, DC Studios has officially announced the actor who will don the cape and cowl in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) reboot of Batman. The long-anticipated casting was confirmed by DC Studios co-chair James Gunn, marking a pivotal moment in the studio’s evolving cinematic slate.
The new Batman will headline The Brave and the Bold, a film that introduces a more seasoned Dark Knight already entrenched in Gotham’s crime-fighting underworld and accompanied by a functioning Bat-Family. This version of the Caped Crusader will exist separately from Robert Pattinson’s noir-tinged Batman, whose storyline continues in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, slated for release in October 2027.
While speculation had swirled for months—with names like Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles floated by fans—Gunn’s announcement puts an end to the guessing game. Though the studio has not yet released the actor’s name publicly, insiders suggest the reveal is imminent, with promotional materials and a teaser expected to follow within days.
The casting comes amid a broader reimagining of the DCU under Gunn and co-chair Peter Safran, who are steering the franchise into its “Gods and Monsters” chapter. This new Batman will reportedly share the screen with Robin—specifically Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son—offering a dynamic not yet explored in live-action cinema.
The announcement also coincides with casting news for other key DCU characters. Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries has been confirmed as Clayface in James Watkins’ upcoming film, further expanding the interconnected universe Gunn is building.
With the official Batman casting now locked, fans can expect a flurry of updates as production gears up. Whether this new iteration will lean into detective noir, high-octane action, or emotional legacy storytelling remains to be seen—but one thing is certain: Gotham’s shadows are stirring once again.
