In a high-octane collision of faith and firepower, Colin Farrell is set to headline Ordained, a gritty new action-thriller produced by Joe and Anthony Russo through their AGBO banner. The film adapts the upcoming comic book of the same name from indie publisher Bad Idea, promising a morally charged tale of redemption, violence, and divine reckoning.
Farrell will portray Father Roy Craig, a priest with a shadowy past who becomes an unlikely target after administering last rites to a dying mob boss. When the gangster miraculously survives, he realizes he’s confessed too much—and unleashes a wave of hitmen, corrupt cops, and underworld enforcers to silence the priest. But Father Roy, bound by his faith and the sixth commandment—“Thou shalt not kill”—must confront his old instincts to survive the onslaught.
The screenplay is penned by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, whose signature blend of stylized violence and emotional stakes is expected to shape Ordained into a spiritual successor to the assassin franchise. Kolstad also joins the producing team alongside Dinesh Shamdasani and Benjamin Simpson of Bad Idea. The Russo brothers will produce for AGBO with Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco, while Farrell and his sister Claudine Farrell will produce under their Chapel Place banner.
The source material, written by Robert Venditti with art by Trevor Hairsine and colors by Dave Stewart, is slated for release on December 10. Though the comic has yet to hit shelves, early buzz around its cinematic adaptation is already building, with fans eager to see Farrell—fresh off his acclaimed turn in The Penguin—step into the collar of a conflicted, combat-ready cleric.
Ordained marks a rare collaboration between two titans of comic book cinema: Farrell, a DC mainstay, and the Russos, architects of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. Yet the project is wholly independent, unbound by franchise expectations and free to explore darker, more philosophical terrain.
With its fusion of pulp noir, theological tension, and explosive action, Ordained is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing genre entries of 2026. As Father Roy Craig prepares to face his past and protect his soul, audiences can expect a visceral meditation on guilt, grace, and the cost of keeping faith in a world gone rogue.
