LOS ANGELES — The DC Universe is expanding its cosmic reach. Aaron Pierre, the breakout star of Rebel Ridge, has officially joined the cast of “Man of Tomorrow,” the highly anticipated sequel to James Gunn’s 2025 Superman.
Pierre will portray John Stewart, one of the most iconic members of the Green Lantern Corps. The casting marks a significant step in DC Studios’ strategy to bridge its television and film projects, as Pierre is also set to lead the HBO series Lanterns, premiering this August.
A Unified DC Universe
The announcement, confirmed by Pierre on Instagram Friday, solidifies his role as a cornerstone of the new DCU. While Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner represented the Green Lanterns in the first Superman film, Pierre’s John Stewart is expected to bring a more disciplined, “marine-like” presence to the sequel.
In Man of Tomorrow, Stewart will reportedly assist Superman in a high-stakes conflict that takes the franchise into deeper cosmic territory.
Cast and Production Details
James Gunn returns to both write and direct the sequel. The film is scheduled to begin production this April in Atlanta, aiming for a theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
The Road Ahead
Before he takes flight alongside David Corenswet, fans will first see Pierre in “Lanterns.” The HBO series is described as a “gritty, Earth-based mystery” in the vein of True Detective, featuring Stewart as a new recruit paired with veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler.
Man of Tomorrow is the latest building block in a busy slate for DC Studios, following the upcoming release of Supergirl in June 2026 and the horror-tinged Clayface project later that year.
