In a strategic move that underscores the growing global appetite for youth-driven romantic comedies, Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired international sales rights to two Tubi original films: How to Lose a Popularity Contest and Kissing Is the Easy Part. The announcement comes just ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where Blue Fox will officially launch sales for both titles.
A Double Dose of Teen Romance
Both films tap into the Gen Z zeitgeist with high school settings, opposites-attract dynamics, and a healthy dose of emotional stakes.
– How to Lose a Popularity Contest stars Chase Hudson (Downfalls High) and Sara Waisglass (Ginny & Georgia) as a rebellious bad boy and a type-A overachiever who team up to win the student body presidency—and maybe each other’s hearts. Written by Kaitlin Reilly and Dorian Keyes, the film is produced by Great Pacific Media, with Lindsay McAdam and Jason Fischer producing, and Devorah Moos Hankin and Lori Massini serving as executive producers.
– Kissing Is the Easy Part, directed by Fawzia Mirza (The Queen of My Dreams), adapts Christine Duann’s popular Wattpad webnovel. It stars Asher Angel (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) and Paris Berelc (Alexa & Katie) as Sean and Flora—an ambitious student and his effortlessly cool classmate—who strike a tutoring-for-recommendation deal that quickly spirals into romantic chaos. Jennifer Robertson (Ginny & Georgia) co-stars as Sean’s mother. The film is produced by WEBTOON Productions and Wattpad Studios, with executive producers including Angel, Berelc, Mirza, and Rebecca Webb.
Global Reach for Tubi Originals
Blue Fox Entertainment President Lisa Gutberlet expressed confidence in the films’ international appeal:
“We’re thrilled to bring these two fresh, joyful rom-coms to the international marketplace. The success we’ve seen worldwide with The Bad Boy and Me and its sequel proves the strong appetite for Tubi Originals internationally, and we’re confident that Kissing Is the Easy Part and How to Lose a Popularity Contest will resonate just as strongly with audiences everywhere”.
Blue Fox will handle distribution outside the U.S. and Canada, with the deal brokered by Erica Novich for Tubi and Lisa Gutberlet and Kalani Dreimanis for Blue Fox Entertainment.
TIFF as Launchpad
With TIFF serving as a key launchpad for international sales, the acquisition positions Blue Fox to capitalize on the festival’s global reach and industry buzz. Both films are expected to appeal to buyers seeking content that blends emotional resonance with youthful charm—hallmarks of Tubi’s expanding original slate.
