Danai Gurira has officially joined the cast of Here Comes the Flood, Netflix’s upcoming heist thriller directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Fernando Meirelles (The Two Popes). The film, which is currently shooting in New Jersey, adds Gurira to an already powerhouse lineup that includes Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
A Heist Story with Twists
Written by Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Here Comes the Flood is described as an unconventional, twist-heavy thriller centered on a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief entangled in a dangerous web of deception and double-crosses. The narrative reportedly unfolds in a nonlinear format, blending romance, betrayal, and high-stakes suspense.
Gurira’s Role and Rising Ensemble
Best known for her fierce portrayal of Okoye in Marvel’s Black Panther franchise and her emotionally complex turn as Michonne in The Walking Dead, Gurira brings gravitas and intensity to the ensemble. She joins Sean Harris, Moisés Arias, and Justin Kirk as new additions to the cast, rounding out a team of actors known for their versatility and dramatic range.
Production Underway
Filming began in Bloomfield, New Jersey, with early set photos showing Washington and Pattinson in grounded, urban attire, hinting at a gritty tone for the film. Kinberg and Audrey Chon are producing through Genre Films, alongside Meirelles, with Samson Mucke and Katia Washington serving as executive producers.
Release Date and Expectations
While Netflix has yet to announce an official release date, Here Comes the Flood is already generating buzz for its genre-blending approach and prestige cast. With Gurira’s addition, the film promises to deliver both emotional depth and thrilling spectacle.
