LONDON — Get your biscuits ready. After years of “will-they-won’t-they” regarding a continuation, the Greyhounds are officially returning to the pitch. While Apple TV+ had previously confirmed a general summer 2026 window, star Hannah Waddingham appears to have narrowed it down to August 2026.
Speaking on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards last week, the Emmy-winning actress—who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton—was asked about the show’s progress. “August, I think!” Waddingham said, before jokingly adding, “Am I allowed to say August? What if I’m wrong? I think it’s August.”
A New Direction: The “Lady Greyhounds”
While Season 3 ended with Ted returning to Kansas, Season 4 brings him back to London with a major twist. Apple’s official logline confirms that Ted will be taking on his “biggest challenge yet”: coaching a second-division women’s football team.
This shift aligns with the Season 3 finale’s hint, where Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) pitched the idea of a women’s team to Rebecca. Waddingham has already dubbed the new squad the “Lady Greyhounds.”
Returning and New Faces
The core “Diamond Dogs” and their associates are largely confirmed to return, alongside a fresh roster of talent to fill out the new team.
Why August 2026?
An August premiere is strategically timed for two major sporting reasons:
- The 2026 FIFA World Cup: The tournament, co-hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada, concludes in late July. Launching Ted Lasso immediately after captures the peak of global football fever.
- Premier League Kickoff: Mid-August typically marks the start of the English Premier League season, providing the perfect cultural backdrop for the show’s return.
Production Notes
- Showrunner Change: Jack Burditt (Modern Family, 30 Rock) joins the executive production team under a new overall deal with Apple.
- Filming Locations: Production has been split between London and Sudeikis’s hometown of Kansas City.
- Episode Count: While not officially confirmed, industry reports suggest a 10-episode order, returning to the tighter format of Season 1.
