LOS ANGELES — The wait is finally over for fans of the “Black Knight.” After years of silence following his cryptic debut in 2021’s Eternals, Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Kit Harington will return as Dane Whitman in the upcoming Blade reboot and the highly anticipated Midnight Suns ensemble.
The news, which broke late last month, resolves one of the longest-standing cliffhangers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While Harington had previously played down rumors of his involvement—at one point suggesting his character was never intended for Mahershala Ali’s Blade—new reports from industry insiders and studio sources confirm a significant course correction at Marvel.
A Darker Corner of the MCU
Harington’s return is centered on two major projects that will define the supernatural future of the franchise:
- Blade: Dane Whitman will reportedly serve as a secondary lead. The film is expected to explore the mentorship between Mahershala Ali’s Eric Brooks and Whitman, as the latter struggles with the blood-curse of the Ebony Blade, the mystical sword teased at the end of Eternals.
- Midnight Suns: This project, long rumored but now firmly on the slate, will serve as a supernatural equivalent to the Avengers. Harington is slated to join a roster that includes Blade, Moon Knight, and Agatha Harkness to battle mystical threats that the traditional heroes are ill-equipped to handle.
”A Different Kind of Hero”
In recent interviews, Harington has expressed his excitement about exploring the darker, psychological toll of his character.
”I love the idea of a good guy being turned bad by his superpower,” Harington shared during a press junket for his other 2026 project, A Tale of Two Cities. “The Ebony Blade isn’t just a weapon; it’s a burden. It’s addictive and dangerous, and that’s a fascinating headspace to play in.”
The Road Ahead
While Blade has faced a famously turbulent production cycle, the inclusion of Harington is seen by many as a stabilizing move, tying the supernatural thread back to the wider MCU.
Filming is expected to ramp up later this year, with Blade currently eyeing a late 2026 release window. For Harington, this marks a busy year; alongside his MCU commitments, he is also starring as Sydney Carton in the BBC’s gritty new adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities, which is currently airing.
