LOS ANGELES — Krysten Ritter, the actress and producer best known for her gritty portrayal of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, is officially set to executive produce and star in a television series adaptation of her latest novel, Retreat.
The news comes as the project hits the marketplace with significant momentum, backed by Berlanti Productions and writer-producer Steve Yockey, the creative mind behind the hit HBO Max series The Flight Attendant.
A High-Stakes Hitchcockian Mystery
Based on Ritter’s second novel (published in March 2025), the series is described as a darkly comedic, hour-long thriller. The story centers on Liz Dawson—a character specifically intended for Ritter—who is a master grifter and chameleon-like con artist.
- The Plot: After getting cornered in the exclusive Mexican beach town of Punta Mita, Liz is forced to assume the identity of a wealthy deceased woman.
- The Conflict: What begins as a “reset” from her life of crime quickly devolves into a sun-bleached mystery as people around her start dying, leaving Liz desperate to maintain her facade while avoiding a deadly setup.
- The Vibe: Insiders describe the project as having a “Hitchcockian” feel, blending high-society glamor with sharp-witted suspense.

Ritter’s Expanding Creative Portfolio
The adaptation of Retreat marks a significant milestone in Ritter’s career as she continues to bridge the gap between acting and literature. Her first novel, Bonfire, was a critically acclaimed psychological thriller, but Retreat represents her first major move toward self-adapting her own literary work for the screen.
Beyond Retreat, Ritter remains one of the busiest names in Hollywood. She recently completed a recurring role as the serial killer “Lady Vengeance” in the Dexter sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, and is slated to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jessica Jones in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+.
With the project currently being shopped to networks and streaming platforms, fans can expect a competitive bidding war for what is being hailed as a “spiritual successor” to the breakout success of The Flight Attendant.
