LOS ANGELES — Mickey Haller is trading his prison jumpsuit for his signature town car as production on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 officially kicked off in Los Angeles this week. Showrunner Ted Humphrey confirmed the news on March 13, 2026, sharing a first-look image of the season’s inaugural clapboard on social media.
The renewal comes as no surprise to industry insiders; the legal drama has remained a Top 10 staple for Netflix since Season 4 premiered to record-breaking numbers on February 5, 2026.
The Plot: A “Resurrection Walk”
Season 5 will be an adaptation of Michael Connelly’s 2023 bestseller, Resurrection Walk. While Season 4 followed Mickey fighting for his own life behind bars, the new episodes will invert the stakes:
- The “Habeas” Mission: Mickey takes on the case of a woman wrongfully imprisoned for murdering her husband six years ago.
- A Family Revelation: The season’s engine is a major personal twist introduced in the Season 4 finale. Cobie Smulders (best known for How I Met Your Mother and the MCU) has been promoted to series regular as Emi Finch, a woman who claims to be Mickey’s half-sister.
- The Investigative Pivot: In the original novels, this story is a “dual-protagonist” case featuring Mickey and his half-brother, Harry Bosch. Since Netflix does not hold the rights to the Bosch character (who resides at Amazon), Emi Finch will fill the role of Mickey’s primary investigative partner.
Production Timeline and Release Window
Filming is currently underway across Los Angeles and is scheduled to wrap on July 9, 2026. Based on the show’s established 130-day production cycle and post-production requirements, fans should mark their calendars for a likely return in early 2027.
- Season 5 Episode Count: 10 Episodes
- Estimated Release: February – April 2027
- Location: Extensive filming on location in Downtown LA and Malibu.
