Despite online buzz, Disney has not confirmed a live-action Aladdin 2 sequel—Naomi Scott calls recent rumors “completely fake.”
In the wake of swirling speculation, Disney’s live-action Aladdin sequel appears to be more mirage than magic carpet ride. Recent reports suggested that Aladdin 2 was set to begin filming in January 2026, with returning stars Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud, and Will Smith reprising their roles as Jasmine, Aladdin, and Genie respectively. However, Naomi Scott herself has stepped in to shut down the rumors.
The buzz began when Productionlist.com listed Aladdin 2 as an active project, citing filming locations in London and the United States. The listing described the sequel as a continuation of the 2019 musical adaptation of the 1992 animated classic, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
But fans hoping for a return to Agrabah were quickly grounded. A fan account reached out to Naomi Scott on social media to confirm the report, and her response was unequivocal: “Fake boo. Completely false.”
This marks the latest twist in the uncertain fate of Disney’s live-action sequel strategy. Earlier this year, industry insider Skyler Shuler reported that Aladdin 2, along with other anticipated follow-ups like Maleficent 3 and The Jungle Book 2, had been shelved by Disney amid a broader strategic shift.
The original Aladdin, directed by Guy Ritchie, was a commercial triumph but received mixed critical reviews. While its success sparked interest in a sequel and even a spinoff centered on Billy Magnussen’s character, no official greenlight has been issued for any continuation.
For now, fans may need to settle for revisiting the original film or exploring Disney’s expanding catalogue of remakes. As for Aladdin 2, it seems the lamp remains unopened—and the Genie uncalled.
