HOLLYWOOD — Netflix is doubling down on high-stakes tension. Regina Hall has officially joined the cast of the upcoming hostage thriller series Rabbit, Rabbit, where she will star opposite Oscar-nominee Adam Driver.
The series, which received a straight-to-series order, is shaping up to be a psychological “poker match” between two of Hollywood’s most versatile leads.
The Plot: Tactical Empathy vs. Desperate Genius
The series centers on J-Will (Driver), an escaped convict who finds himself cornered by law enforcement at a remote truck stop. In a desperate bid for freedom, he takes a group of hostages, but the situation quickly evolves from a standard standoff into a twisted “social experiment.”
Hall will play Poppy, a retired FBI supervisory special agent and veteran crisis negotiator. Known for her mastery of “tactical empathy,” Poppy is the only person capable of matching J-Will’s intellect. The show is described as an intense character study masquerading as a high-octane standoff.
A Powerhouse Creative Team
Netflix has assembled a “prestige” crew behind the scenes to ensure the series delivers on its claustrophobic promise:
- Showrunner: Peter Craig, the acclaimed writer behind The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick.
- Director: Philip Barantini, who gained fame for the “one-shot” anxiety-inducing film Boiling Point and the recent Adolescence.
- Supporting Cast: Joining Hall and Driver are Will Poulter (The Bear) and Odessa Young (Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere).
Why It Matters
For Regina Hall, this marks a significant pivot into the prestige thriller space following her recent turn in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. While she is still set to return to her comedic roots in Scary Movie 6, Rabbit, Rabbit offers her a chance to showcase the “no-nonsense” dramatic gravity that has defined her recent career resurgence.
Adam Driver also serves as an executive producer on the project, which is being produced by MRC (the studio behind Ozark and House of Cards) and Night Owl Stories.
”The standoff soon escalates into an unmanageable social experiment with his captives, as well as an emotional poker match with a veteran FBI Crisis Negotiator.” — Official Netflix Logline
