Vertical Entertainment has secured U.S. distribution rights to Stone Cold Fox, a gritty, high-octane thriller starring Kiernan Shipka, Kiefer Sutherland, and Krysten Ritter. Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Sophie Tabet, the film is a throwback to the pulpy action thrillers of the 1980s—with a modern edge and a powerhouse cast.
Plot & Cast Highlights
Set in 1986, Stone Cold Fox follows Fox (Shipka), a defiant young woman who escapes an abusive commune in search of her family. Her journey takes a dark turn when a ruthless queenpin (Ritter) kidnaps Fox’s younger sister and dispatches a crooked cop (Sutherland) to hunt her down. To save her sibling, Fox must infiltrate the very place she fled, confronting trauma, betrayal, and a web of criminal power.
The ensemble cast also includes Mishel Prada (Brilliant Minds), Karen Fukuhara (The Boys), Jamie Chung, and Lorenza Izzo. The film was co-written by Tabet and Julia Roth, based on an original story by Tabet, Roth, and Jonathan Craven.
Production & Vision
Produced by Bee-Hive’s Stephen Braun, The Wonder Company’s Chris Abernathy and Eric B. Fleischman, and executive produced by industry veteran Joe Roth, Stone Cold Fox is a passion project for Tabet. “I grew up on gritty ’80s action-thrillers,” she said, “so getting to make my own audacious thrill-ride with a fearless partner like Vertical handling the release is a dream come true”.
Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey praised the film’s intensity and Tabet’s emerging talent: “Sophie has delivered a thriller that keeps you on edge and showcases her talent as an emerging filmmaker”.
Release Plans
The film is slated for release later this year, with Vertical planning a strategic rollout that highlights its retro aesthetic and emotional punch. With its blend of stylized action, psychological depth, and a female-led narrative, Stone Cold Fox is poised to make waves in the indie thriller circuit.
