BURBANK, CA — In a move that has sent the comic book world into a frenzy, new reports suggest that Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele is back in active conversations with Marvel Studios for an upcoming project.
The news comes at a pivotal time for both parties. While Peele has long been the champion of original, high-concept horror through his Monkeypaw Productions, his untitled fourth directorial feature was recently pulled from Universal Pictures’ 2026 release calendar. With his personal schedule unexpectedly opening up, Hollywood insiders suggest that Kevin Feige is moving quickly to bring the Get Out auteur into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The “X” Factor
This isn’t the first time Peele’s name has been linked to the house that Iron Man built. Earlier rumors in 2024 and 2025 confirmed that Peele met with Marvel to discuss the highly anticipated X-Men reboot.
While those initial talks reportedly cooled—largely due to Peele’s desire for creative autonomy and script-writing duties—the current industry landscape has shifted. Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel is reportedly more open to “auteur-driven” takes on their properties to combat “superhero fatigue.”
Potential Projects: Blade or Midnight Sons?
If it isn’t the Mutants, what could it be? Speculation is mounting around two specific corners of the MCU that align with Peele’s mastery of the macabre:
The Blade Reboot: After years of production hell and rotating directors, the Mahershala Ali-led Blade remains without a captain. Fans have long argued that Peele’s ability to blend social commentary with visceral horror makes him the only choice to save the Daywalker.
Midnight Sons: Rumors have surfaced that Marvel is planning a “supernatural Avengers” featuring Moon Knight, Blade, and Ghost Rider. A genre-bending director like Peele could provide the gritty, R-rated edge that this corner of the universe requires.
The Auteur’s Dilemma
The biggest hurdle remains creative control. Historically, Peele has written every film he has directed (Get Out, Us, Nope). Marvel’s “production-by-committee” style has famously clashed with directors like Edgar Wright and Nia DaCosta in the past.
However, industry analysts suggest that after a string of mixed box office results for Peele-produced projects like HIM and Monkey Man, a massive franchise hit could provide the “one for them, one for me” leverage Peele needs to fund his next original nightmare.
“Marvel needs a visionary right now more than Jordan Peele needs a blockbuster,” says industry scooper Daniel Richtman. “But if they give him the keys to the kingdom—and the pen to write it—we could be looking at the most sophisticated MCU film ever made.”
