In a move that has sent ripples through the comics industry, the creator-owned powerhouse DSTLRY has officially announced a “short publishing pause.”
The announcement, made on February 5, 2026, follows a turbulent year for the publisher, primarily driven by the bankruptcy of its former distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. While the publisher has since moved its operations to Penguin Random House (PRH), the transition has created significant logistical hurdles that the company aims to resolve during this hiatus.
Why the Pause?
According to an open letter titled “A Short Publishing Pause and What’s Next,” the decision isn’t due to a lack of content—many upcoming issues are reportedly finished or near completion. Instead, the company cited the need to “regroup and reset” its strategy for marketing, printing, and distribution to ensure books land with the impact they deserve.
”Good publishing entails the right strategy for timing, marketing, printing, and distribution. We want to make sure these books land with the impact they deserve.” — DSTLRY Statement
Impacted Titles
The pause has led to the immediate delay of several high-profile series. Fans should note that these titles are delayed, not canceled:
- City Beneath Her Feet #3
- Endeavour #3
- Galactic #2
- White Boat #3
- Mischief of Magpies #1 (Debut series)
Updated solicitations suggest some of these titles may not hit shelves until April or May 2026.
The Silver Lining: Digital and Future Plans
While the physical presses are slowing down, DSTLRY’s digital presence remains active. Their digital platform, Neon Ichiban, continues to operate, with new digital comics and “Remarques” releasing weekly.
The publisher, founded by former ComiXology executives David Steinberger and Chip Mosher, remains committed to its prestige format and creator-first philosophy. The “pause” is framed as a necessary step to move past the “distributor disarray” of 2025 and establish a more stable rhythm for the years ahead.
