James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has offered a fresh glimpse into the evolving DC Universe (DCU), revealing that two new film scripts and a yet-to-be-greenlit TV series are currently in development. The update comes as Gunn and Peter Safran continue to shape the franchise’s ambitious Chapter One: “Gods and Monsters.”
Two New Films on the Horizon
In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Gunn shared that “there’s actually two really cool film scripts that I’m hoping to take to the next level.” While he stopped short of naming the projects, speculation is already swirling around potential titles like The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, and Swamp Thing, all previously teased as part of the DCU roadmap.
The studio’s current release strategy includes Supergirl (June 26, 2026) and Clayface (September 11, 2026), followed by Man of Tomorrow—a sequel to Gunn’s Superman—slated for July 9, 2027.
A TV Series in Limbo
Gunn also expressed enthusiasm for a new television project, though it remains unconfirmed. “I don’t know why we’re not greenlighted on that already—it’s just figuring out the budget,” he said, hinting at internal discussions that could soon push the series forward.
Meanwhile, Lanterns, Waller, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold are among the DCU shows currently in various stages of development, with Peacemaker Season 2 wrapping up its run this month.
Building Toward Man of Tomorrow
Gunn emphasized that Man of Tomorrow is his primary focus, with production set to begin in April 2026. The film will reunite David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, continuing the narrative threads laid in Superman (2025).
As the DCU enters its next phase, Gunn’s update signals a steady expansion of the franchise—one that balances legacy characters with bold new storytelling.
