CULVER CITY — The world’s second-most expensive series is officially coming back from the dead. Prime Video announced on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, that the second season of its high-octane spy thriller, Citadel, will premiere globally on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
In a departure from the weekly release schedule of the first season, Amazon has confirmed that all seven episodes will drop at once, allowing fans to binge the entire globe-spanning mission in a single strike.
New Team, Higher Stakes
Picking up three years after the events of the Season 1 finale, the new chapter finds elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden), Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), and spymaster Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) facing the consequences of their shattered pasts.
With the shadow syndicate Manticore tightening its grip on the world’s most powerful families, the fractured remnants of Citadel must recruit an “unlikely team” of operatives to prevent a global conspiracy.
Returning Faces:
- Richard Madden as Mason Kane/Kyle Conroy
- Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Nadia Sinh
- Stanley Tucci as Bernard Orlick
- Lesley Manville as the villainous Dahlia Archer
- Ashleigh Cummings as Abby Conroy
Major Cast Additions
Season 2 expands the “espionage chessboard” with several high-profile additions that hint at a more diverse and unpredictable tone:
- Jack Reynor: Joining as a key operative named Hutch.
- Matt Berry: The What We Do in the Shadows star joins as Franke Sharpe, bringing a unique energy to the gritty spy world.
- Lina El Arabi: Portraying a character named Celine.
- Other Additions: The cast is rounded out by Merle Dandridge, Gabriel Leone, and Rayna Vallandingham.
Production Context: The “Russo” Gamble
Produced by AGBO (the Russo Brothers’ production house) and Amazon MGM Studios, Citadel remains one of the most ambitious television projects ever attempted. Despite mixed reviews for its first season in 2023, the show proved to be a massive international hit, prompting Amazon to double down on the flagship series while previously canceling some of its regional spin-offs.
The new season is being overseen by showrunner David Weil, with Joe Russo and Greg Yaitanes sharing directing duties.
”The goal of this new season is to build on the first one by adding more action, deeper secrets, and characters that blur the lines between friend and foe,” a spokesperson for Prime Video stated.
The Countdown Begins
Fans can now watch the official trailer, which debuted alongside the date announcement. The teaser showcases a labyrinth of betrayal, including a high-speed chase through the Alps and a mysterious “new mission” that Bernard claims is the “only way to save the future.”
With the May 6 release date locked in, Citadel is poised to be Prime Video’s marquee summer offering for 2026.
