NEW YORK — Moving out of Richmond and into Manhattan, Ted Lasso standout Brett Goldstein is taking on a cheeky new role. Prime Video has officially handed an eight-episode, straight-to-series order to Escorted, a single-camera romantic comedy starring, written, and executive produced by the two-time Emmy winner.
The project comes from Warner Bros. Television as part of Goldstein’s highly lucrative overall development deal with the studio.
From Grumpy Footballer to Accidental Escort
The half-hour comedy marks a sharp, risqué pivot from the gruff, football-pitch charm of Goldstein’s iconic Ted Lasso character, Roy Kent.
Set against the bustling backdrop of New York City, Escorted follows a divorced Manhattan dad (played by Goldstein) who unexpectedly and accidentally falls into the world of male escorting. According to Prime Video, the series is a “modern, modern take on relationships,” exploring the complex dynamics of modern sex, the chaotic comedy of co-parenting, and the deeper question of whether true intimacy can ever really be bought.
In a characteristically witty statement accompanying the series announcement, Goldstein shared his excitement about the unconventional premise:
”I’m so excited to bring a wholesome show about condoms, co-parenting, and cosplay to Amazon – the place where I actually buy my condoms, so it feels like a real full circle moment.”
A Powerhouse Creative Team Assemble
Goldstein isn’t steering the ship alone. He will serve as co-showrunner alongside Brian Gallivan, a proven comedy force known for his work on Happy Endings and Apple TV+’s Shrinking—where he and Goldstein previously collaborated as executive producers.
The behind-the-scenes roster also features some heavy-hitting prestige-comedy talent, including:
- Josh Senior & Cooper Wehde: Executive producers acclaimed for their work on FX’s award-winning hit The Bear.
- **Molly Mandel: Joining the executive producing team to round out the comedic brain trust.
”What makes Escorted so compelling is that beneath all of the chaos, comedy, and secrecy is an unexpectedly tender story about people searching for connection,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television for Amazon MGM Studios. “Brett Goldstein and Brian Gallivan have crafted a series that feels daring, emotionally authentic, and entirely original.”
Goldstein’s Packed Slate
The greenlight for Escorted underscores Goldstein’s skyrocketing demand as a premier Hollywood multihyphenate. The actor-writer is currently juggling an incredibly packed portfolio across multiple major streaming services.
Production timelines and further casting details for Escorted have not yet been announced, but the series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
