LOS ANGELES — Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a temporary restraining order against an alleged stalker who subjected her to weeks of surveillance before attempting to break into her Hollywood Hills residence.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge signed off on the protective mandate following a series of “deeply alarming” encounters that left the 27-year-old singer fearing for her personal safety. The order legally requires the suspect, identified as 31-year-old William Applegate, to remain at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her vehicle, her workplace, and her home.
Bypassing Security and Attempting Entry
According to extensive court declarations obtained from the filing, Applegate’s obsessive behavior began around April 20, 2026, when he started parking in the pop star’s neighborhood—gradually moving his vehicle into spots progressively closer to her home.
The harassment culminated in a terrifying physical breach on May 23, 2026. Documents reveal that Applegate allegedly trespassed onto a neighbor’s property to bypass Carpenter’s security fencing, made his way directly to her front door, and “forcefully pushed down” on the lever in an attempt to open it.
When he found the door locked, Applegate persistently rang the doorbell and knocked. When confronted by a security guard, he aggressively refused to leave, claiming that he personally knew the Espresso singer and that she was expecting him.
The suspect stood his ground until Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived at the scene and arrested him on a misdemeanor trespassing charge.
”Deliberate Surveillance” Continues
Despite his initial arrest, Applegate returned to the neighborhood less than 24 hours later, loitering outside the property for hours. The following day, May 25, he returned yet again to park outside the house.
In her signed court statement, Carpenter expressed severe ongoing emotional distress over what she characterized as a calculated and terrifying fixation:
“His delusional insistence that he knows me and was expected by me is indicative of a dangerous, delusional and irrational fixation on me,” Carpenter wrote in her declaration, describing the attempted break-in as “among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced.”
An Escalating Risk Profiling
LAPD Detective Peter Doomanis filed a supporting declaration alongside Carpenter’s petition, noting that Applegate’s behavior tracks perfectly with dangerous, escalating stalking patterns. Doomanis also noted that during one of the encounters, Applegate allegedly struck a security guard who attempted to escort him away from the premises.

The pop star is currently navigating a massive career high, hot off the heels of multi-platinum streaming juggernauts and prominent global performances.
While the temporary restraining order provides immediate protection, a follow-up court evaluation is scheduled for June 17, 2026, to determine if the mandate will be extended into a permanent injunction. Applegate is concurrently scheduled to face criminal court a day later on June 18 regarding the initial trespassing and assault allegations.
