LOS ANGELES — The reign of Bumpy Johnson is drawing to its ultimate, dramatic close. MGM+ has officially announced that its critically acclaimed flagship crime drama Godfather of Harlem will conclude with a special, feature-length two-hour series finale in lieu of a full fifth season.
The decision brings a definitive end date to the four-season saga, ensuring that the network’s defining series gets a proper, high-stakes send-off. Production on the cinematic finale is scheduled to commence on July 10, 2026, on the show’s Brooklyn, New York sets.

Godfather of Harlem has served as the absolute cornerstone of MGM+’s premium original programming since its debut in 2019, consistently breaking internal streaming records and driving massive subscriber acquisition metrics across its run.
According to the official synopsis released by MGM+, the two-hour finale will throw Forest Whitaker’s Bumpy Johnson into a desperate fight for survival as his meticulously built criminal empire faces total collapse:
- The Plot: Bumpy faces an ultimate reckoning as walls close in around his territory. With lethal enemies converging from criminal, political, and deeply personal directions, the Harlem boss must lean on every alliance, every sacrifice, and every hard-earned lesson to protect his empire and the people he loves.
- The Historic Legacy: The finale serves as the creative culmination of Bumpy’s extraordinary 1960s saga—tracking a man who rose from the streets to rewrite the power structures of an entire era, and who must now choose exactly what kind of legacy he leaves behind.
Reassembling the Harlem Elite
Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, who has masterfully spearheaded the show as both its lead star and executive producer, expressed deep professional gratitude for the opportunity to properly conclude Bumpy’s cinematic journey.

The main ensemble cast is confirmed to return one final time to wrap up the heavy narrative threads left behind by Season 4, which dealt with the volatile societal fallout following the assassination of Malcolm X.
