LOS ANGELES — Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has secured his next major film project, signing on to star in Deadlocked, a high-concept action thriller acquired by Amazon MGM Studios for global distribution on Prime Video.
The project will be directed by acclaimed Indian filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, who gained widespread international recognition for directing the breakout 2024 Hindi-language martial-arts thriller Kill.
A High-Stakes Courthouse Siege
In Deadlocked, Foxx plays a grieving former Marine fulfilling his civic duty on a jury during a high-profile “trial of the century”.
The routine legal proceeding devolves into chaos when the defendant’s daughter armed group seizes control of the courthouse in a desperate, violent bid to free her father. Trapped inside amidst a deadly hostage situation, the former Marine is forced to rely on his past military training and combat skills to survive and take down the captors.
The screenplay was penned by Eric Scott Anderson (The Black Fox) and Matt Takejiro Bosack (NCIS: Hawai’i), based on an original story concept developed by the duo.
Behind the Camera Leadership
The pairing of Foxx with director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat brings substantial action pedigree to the production.
Bhat made waves across the industry after Kill premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) before securing a mid-seven-figure theatrical distribution deal with Lionsgate. Known for visceral, close-quarters choreography, Bhat’s involvement signals a grounded, intense approach to the courthouse siege narrative.

- C2 Motion Picture Group: Dave Caplan (collaborating again with Range following their recent horror breakouts Longlegs and The Monkey).

Expanding Slate for Foxx
Deadlocked adds to a busy slate for Foxx following his return to action cinema.
He recently starred alongside Cameron Diaz in Netflix’s action-comedy Back in Action, which drew 46.8 million views during its opening weekend. Next up, Foxx is set to headline the Netflix true-story Olympic boxing drama Fight for ’84, while continuing his television role as host and executive producer of Fox’s game show Beat Shazam.
Production schedules and additional casting for Deadlocked are expected to be announced in the coming months as pre-production gets underway.
