LOS ANGELES — Netflix is officially returning to the world of supernatural mystery, handing a series order to Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a brand-new spinoff of the hit sci-fi drama Manifest.
The streaming service timed the announcement precisely for “828 Day” (August 28), marking exactly five years since Netflix rescued the original series following its initial cancellation by NBC. The new project will introduce an entirely fresh cast of characters and a distinct central puzzle while remaining anchored in the same fictional universe.
Amnesia Replaces Time Jumps in New Premise
While the original series followed the passengers of Montego Air Flight 828 who reappeared after five years away, Arrivals shifts the narrative focus to a different kind of inexplicable aviation phenomenon.
According to the official logline provided by Netflix, the series kicks off under drastically different circumstances:
“When a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver, the passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they’re here. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals in an attempt to stop a humanity-ending catastrophe, discovering along the way that they are all part of the very puzzle they’re trying to solve.”
Showrunners intend for the premise to capture the addictive puzzle-box qualities of the original series while forging a completely independent narrative path accessible to first-time viewers and longtime fans alike.

The spinoff reunites key creative talent from the flagship series. Manifest creator Jeff Rake is returning to shepherd the franchise, this time partnering with former co-executive producers Margaret Easley and Laura Putney. The trio will serve as co-creators and co-showrunners for the new project.
Executive producers include Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment, Len Goldstein of Tall Baby Productions, and Jacqueline Levine, with Warner Bros. Television returning as the studio.
