In a strategic post-TIFF acquisition, Buffalo 8 has picked up the North American theatrical and digital distribution rights to PH-1, a taut political thriller that captivated audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Mark Kassen (Jobs), who also stars in the lead role, the film is a claustrophobic, high-stakes drama set entirely within a sleek high-rise penthouse.
PH-1 centers on Payton Burnham (Kassen), a rising political star whose life unravels in real time after being taken hostage by a mysterious captor. As Burnham is forced to watch his public and private worlds collapse via social and traditional media, he must race against time to uncover his tormentor’s identity and motives before everything he’s built is destroyed.
The film boasts a compelling ensemble cast including:
– Abubakar Salim (House of the Dragon)
– Dina Shihabi (Jack Ryan)
– Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order, Rent)
– Vinessa Shaw (Eyes Wide Shut, 3:10 to Yuma)
Written by Cheryl Guerriero (Palmer) and Kassen, PH-1 was produced by Iliana Nikolic and Kassen under the Like Minded Entertainment banner, with Julian West serving as executive producer. Buffalo 8’s executive team—Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Nikki Stier Justice, and Jacob Silvera—will oversee the film’s release strategy.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with Buffalo 8,” said Kassen. “The passion with which they’ve approached our film matches the care of the incredible team that helped make it. We can’t wait to share PH-1 with audiences.”
Jacob Silvera, Buffalo 8’s Director of Distribution and Acquisitions, added: “We’re thrilled to bring PH-1 to audiences, as its themes feel especially relevant in today’s landscape of social media and political polarization. The film is both thrilling and thought-provoking, combining a high-stakes narrative with sharp social commentary that challenges viewers to reflect on the world we live in”.
PH-1 is slated for theatrical and digital release, with further details to be announced. The acquisition deal was brokered by CAA Media Finance and Buffalo 8’s Silvera.
