Just over two weeks after its sophomore drop, the hit middle-age friendship comedy lands an eight-episode pickup—and a highly anticipated romantic complication.
HOLLYWOOD — The ultimate vacation group chat is staying active. Netflix has officially greenlit a third season of its hit comedy-drama The Four Seasons, locking in another round of seasonal getaways, existential dread, and brilliant ensemble chemistry.
The renewal was announced on stage at the BANFF World Media Festival by Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series for the U.S. and Canada. The pickup comes on the heels of a massive wave of viewership for Season 2, which debuted on the streaming platform on May 28, 2026.
”Middle-Aged People, LFG!”
Co-creators and showrunners Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock, Never Have I Ever) expressed their chaotic delight over the swift renewal, issuing a joint statement celebrating the show’s core demographic:
”We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of The Four Seasons to life. Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!”
— Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield
Tracey Pakosta, Netflix VP of U.S. Comedy, echoed the sentiment, praising the show’s ability to find sharp, specific humor in the messy transitions of adulthood. “Tina, Lang, and Tracey have a magical way of blending heart and sharp humor, making us feel like part of the inner circle,” Pakosta said. “We’re thrilled to keep the vacation going.”
The Whole Crew is Returning (Plus a Major Upgrade)
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the entire core group of lifelong friends is locked in to return for the next eight-episode block. The structural format will remain unchanged, dedicating two episodes to each season of the year as the gang navigates their traditional quarterly holidays.
- The Returning Core: Tina Fey (Kate), Will Forte (Jack), Colman Domingo (Danny), Marco Calvani (Claude), Kerri Kenney-Silver (Anne), and Erika Henningsen (Ginny) are all confirmed to return.
- More Screen Time for Ginny: Insiders report that Henningsen’s character, Ginny, will have a significantly beefed-up storyline in Season 3 after taking a back seat in the latter half of the second season.
- The Philadelphia Thread: Following the Season 2 finale hint that Danny and Claude are plotting a move to Philadelphia to care for Danny’s mother, rumors are swirling that the show might leave its usual coastal haunts for a trip to the City of Brotherly Love.
Enter the Doctor: The David Tennant Effect
The most electrifying news for the fandom centers around the likely permanent addition of Doctor Who and Good Omens star David Tennant.
Tennant sent shockwaves through the community with a surprise, last-minute cameo in the Season 2 finale, playing Gianpiero—a charming new neighbor who crosses paths with Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) right as she considers a permanent move to Italy. The instant-classic “meet-cute cliffhanger” left audiences begging for more.
Fey stayed playfully coy when pressed about Tennant’s long-term involvement, telling Netflix’s Tudum: “What would happen if Anne chose someone who was similar to her? If we’re lucky, we’ll get to see.”
However, production sources indicate that writing teams are already heavily breaking stories for Gianpiero, cementing him as the primary romantic catalyst for the upcoming season. With Tennant’s other massive streaming hit Rivals also securing a swift renewal this month, the Scottish actor is officially dominating the premium television space.
Production on Season 3 is expected to ramp up late this year, eyeing a traditional early-summer release window in mid-2027.
