LOS ANGELES — Netflix has officially added Hollywood star Jessica Alba to the cast of its upcoming reimagining of the classic 2004 romantic comedy 13 Going on 30.
While details surrounding Alba’s character remain closely guarded, sources confirm the Fantastic Four and Trigger Warning actor has joined the project in an undisclosed role while also boarding the production team as an executive producer.
Alba joins a primary cast led by Emily Bader (People We Meet on Vacation), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson, Only Murders in the Building), and Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
Guiding the “Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving” Legacy
The original 2004 Columbia Pictures hit starred Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink, a awkward 13-year-old girl who makes a birthday wish and magically wakes up as a 30-year-old fashion magazine editor navigating adulthood. The film—co-starring Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer—grossed nearly $96 million worldwide and became a enduring pop-culture staple.
Garner is intimately involved in guiding the new chapter, returning to the franchise alongside Alba as an executive producer.
The reboot is being directed by Brett Haley, who previously helmed Netflix’s hit rom-com People We Meet on Vacation. The screenplay was penned by Hannah Marks, with revisions by Flora Greeson.
”13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films… stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility,” director Brett Haley previously shared. “Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful.”
A Busy Pipeline for Netflix and Alba
Production on the project quietly kicked off in Los Angeles, though Netflix has not yet locked in an official release date. The film is being produced by industry veterans Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum under their RK Films banner.
For Alba, joining the rom-com reimagining continues a fruitful partnership with Netflix, coming off her leading role in the platform’s action-thriller hit Trigger Warning. Beyond the 13 Going on 30 project, Alba is next set to appear alongside Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins in the biographical drama Maserati: The Brothers.
