NEW YORK — Franchise star Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another Deadpool movie is officially in early development at Marvel Studios, assuring fans that the Merc with a Mouth will eventually return to the big screen.
Speaking during a panel appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026 in New York, the actor revealed that while a full script and director have yet to be locked in, creative conversations regarding the character’s next chapter are already underway.
The announcement comes two years after Deadpool & Wolverine shattered box-office records, grossing $1.338 billion globally to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
Exploring Comic ‘Deep Cuts’
Addressing a crowded auditorium, Reynolds hinted that the next installment will likely pull from lesser-known storylines and obscure comic lore that have not yet made it to cinema screens.
Specifically, the actor referenced influential runs by Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza and fan-favorite comic writer Gerry Duggan as potential inspirations for future material.
”There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing from the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics… There’s certainly some stuff that I love that Fabian Nicieza wrote that is incredible, and Gerry Duggan, another friend and incredible comic writer, that we can put in. But then there’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. So it’s going to be great.”

While fans have been eager for a direct Deadpool 4, Reynolds has previously suggested that the character’s next major appearance might look different from previous standalone outings.
In prior interviews following the intense promotional campaign for Deadpool & Wolverine, the actor noted that while he continues to draft ideas for Wade Wilson, he envisions the character thriving as part of an ensemble cast or in a supporting capacity rather than carrying the narrative solo.
Industry speculation remains high regarding whether Reynolds will pop up in upcoming MCU team-up features—such as Avengers: Doomsday—before headlining another solo feature.
