LOS ANGELES — Amazon’s Prime Video has opted not to renew the action-comedy series Ride or Die for a second season, despite strong viewership numbers and positive critical reception.
Paramount Television Studios, the lead studio behind the project, is actively shopping the series to other networks and streaming platforms in an effort to secure a new home for the program.
Strong Performance and Reception
The series, which stars Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer as lifelong best friends thrust into an international conspiracy, premiered on July 15 with all eight episodes dropping simultaneously.
- Viewership Metrics: Despite its sudden cancellation, the series demonstrated solid audience engagement, logging multiple weeks in Nielsen’s streaming top 10 charts and maintaining a place in Prime Video’s global weekly top 10 for over two months.
- Critical Standing: The production earned a 96 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside strong completion metrics relative to other platform originals.
Premise and Production Background
Created by Tessa Coates and showrun by Matt Miller, Ride or Die follows Debbie Claybourne (Spencer), whose ordinary life is upended when she discovers her best friend Judith Burton (Waddingham) is a covert international assassin. Following a botched hit, the pair is forced to go on the run across Europe.
The first season concluded with several unresolved narrative cliffhangers. Representatives for Paramount Television Studios have not yet announced whether alternative buyers have expressed formal interest in continuing the storyline.
