LOS ANGELES — In a major signpost for Apple TV, the streaming platform has announced that its Emmy-, SAG-, and Critics Choice Award-winning headline drama The Morning Show will end with its upcoming fifth season, set to air in 2027.
The announcement brings a planned conclusion to one of Apple’s foundational original series, which helped launch the tech giant’s streaming platform back in November 2019.
Crafting a Finale with Intentionality
Unlike abrupt streaming cancellations, the show’s creative leads confirmed that Season 5 was written and produced knowing it would serve as the series’ final chapter.
Star and executive producer Jennifer Aniston, who portrays news anchor Alex Levy, reflected on the opportunity to bring the high-stakes newsroom drama to a natural finish:
“From the beginning, Apple has supported our vision for ‘The Morning Show,’ and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to tell stories that reflect what’s happening in the world around us with a twist of dark humor,” Aniston said in a statement. “Going in knowing it would be our last, we were so fortunate to craft the conclusion with intentionality and honor these characters the way they deserve.”
Co-star and executive producer Reese Witherspoon, who plays co-anchor Bradley Jackson, called her time on the project “the honor of a lifetime.”
“This was always more than a show about a newsroom — it was a show about why the newsroom matters. About freedom of the press and the journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great cost,” Witherspoon noted. “Telling that story has been the creative privilege of my career.”
Expanding the Ensemble for the Last Hurrah
Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt revealed that the final arc will follow the series’ resilient journalists as they face monumental personal and professional choices.
- Returning Fan Favorites: Along with Aniston and Witherspoon, returning core cast members include Billy Crudup (Cory Ellison), Mark Duplass (Chip Black), Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm.
- High-Profile New Additions: Season 5 will introduce several high-profile additions, including Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes, and Lizzy Caplan.
The End of an Era for Apple TV
When The Morning Show premiered in 2019 alongside Apple TV’s global launch, it served as the platform’s signature “prestige” offering. Over four seasons, the show tackled real-world headlines in real time—ranging from the #MeToo movement and workplace power dynamics to media consolidation, deepfakes, and corporate cover-ups.
Production on the fifth and final season is currently underway, setting the stage for a dramatic farewell when the newsroom opens its doors one last time in 2027.
