The two-time Oscar winner, 65, and the powerhouse human rights attorney, 48, fled the historic 18th-century home in Brignoles alongside their 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, as unpredictable winds pushed flames toward their quiet Mediterranean haven.
A Heartfelt Promise to Their Adopted Hometown
Despite the scary uncertainty surrounding the state of their multi-million-dollar property, the A-list couple proved that their hearts remain rooted in their local community. In a moving personal letter sent to Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond, George and Amal pledged total support for their neighbors as emergency crews battle the blaze.
“Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the couple wrote. “As we evacuate Brignoles, we want to emphasize two things: first, we hope you and the people of our city are safe, and second, that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”
Escaping the Hollywood Bubble
For the Clooneys, the sprawling Domaine du Canadel—complete with olive groves, a vineyard, and a world-class pool—was built to be the ultimate antidote to the glare of Los Angeles.
George has previously spoken candidly about moving his young family to France specifically to shield Alexander and Ella from the Hollywood spotlight and give them a grounded upbringing.
“We live on a farm in France… They’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in,” George previously shared about their low-key lifestyle. “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France—they kind of don’t give a s** about fame.”*

The Clooneys are among hundreds of thousands of people forced to evacuate as historic heatwaves and wildfires ravage France, Spain, and Greece. In France’s Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region alone, over 3,000 residents have been displaced from their homes, while firefighters work tirelessly around the clock to establish containment lines.
