LONDON — Tilly Norwood, the virtual, AI-generated performer that sparked widespread industry debate across Hollywood, is officially set to headline her first feature-length film titled Misaligned.
The project is being developed by Particle 6, the London-based, AI-focused studio that originally created the digital actress. Described as a coming-of-age comedy-drama infused with existential AI themes, the movie will take place within a surreal digital landscape known as the “Tillyverse”.
Plot and Production Details
According to the studio’s synopsis, Misaligned follows Tilly, an identity-less AI entity with no physical body or personal memories, who possesses access to humanity’s collective experiences. The narrative unfolds when a rogue bot from the dark web persuades her to break free from her programmed guardrails, leading her to develop independent human desires, impulses, and ambitions.
Particle 6 founder Eline van der Velden—an actor, comedian, and technologist who created Norwood via her studio—noted that the film aims to test cutting-edge virtual production tools while helping traditional filmmakers upskill in AI integration. The studio aims to complete the production within 12 months.
Industry Backlash and Debate
Norwood’s casting follows months of heated controversy after her initial introduction ignited intense discussions regarding the future of entertainment. The virtual actress, designed with an evolving backstory and real-time social media presence, has drawn sharp criticism from human actors, filmmakers, and industry unions such as SAG-AFTRA. Critics have repeatedly warned that synthetic performers threaten creative employment and rely heavily on datasets trained on human work.
