LOS ANGELES — Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that fan-favorite actress Hayley Atwell will reprise her iconic role as Peggy Carter in the upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday.
The casting announcement, initially buzzed about at San Diego Comic-Con and further highlighted during a showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, has officially set off a wave of excitement across the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom.
Reuniting with MCU Veterans
Atwell will join an enormous ensemble cast for the multiverse-spanning epic, sharing the spotlight alongside returning MCU heavyweights Robert Downey Jr.—who steps into a brand-new role as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom—and Chris Evans, who returns as Steve Rogers.
Speaking about her return following the convention panels, Atwell expressed deep gratitude and humility regarding the enduring legacy of her character and the romance between Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers.
”I never would have thought 15 years ago that I’d be here,” Atwell shared in an interview following the presentation, expressing appreciation for how passionately fans have continued to champion the character.
High Stakes and Multiversal Scale
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is slated to test heroes from across multiple realities as they face an unprecedented existential threat. While Marvel has kept precise plot details under strict wraps, early promotional footage and teasers indicate that the narrative will explore deeply emotional and high-stakes terrain.
Atwell teased that audiences should prepare for a complex storyline where Peggy finds herself in an especially vulnerable yet dangerous situation, promising a fresh layer to the character rather than just a simple nostalgic revisit.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters exclusively on December 18, 2026.
