LOS ANGELES — Former Saturday Night Live writer and cast member John Higgins has officially boarded the cast of ABC’s hit Scrubs revival for its upcoming second season.
The casting announcement was revealed during a panel at the D23 fan event, sending excitement through the show’s dedicated fanbase as production ramps up for the next batch of episodes.
Stepping In as Sacred Heart’s New Chief Resident
Higgins, best known for his work with the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy, will take on a major recurring role as Grant, the hospital’s new chief resident.
According to reports from TV Series Finale, the character is envisioned as a persistent “thorn in J.D.’s side,” echoing the exact dynamic that Zach Braff’s character once shared with Dr. Cox during his own residency years. Series star Donald Faison praised Higgins’ addition, noting that it has been a delight watching him integrate his sharp comedic timing into the hospital environment.
Expanding Ensemble and Returning Faces
The second season of the revival is undergoing several creative shifts and cast expansions as it prepares to return to television screens:
- New Additions: Alongside Higgins, Parade highlights the arrival of Keyla Monterroso Mejia, who will join the ensemble as surgical nurse Mimi.
- Familiar Returns: Scott Foley is set to reprise his role as Sean Kelly, returning for a recurring arc, while Ava Bunn’s character, Tosh, has been promoted to a series regular.
- Departures: Certain cast members from the first season, including X Mayo and Joel Kim Booster, will not be returning for the second season.
