LOS ANGELES — May 29, 2026 — The extraordinary childhood and formative years of global vocal powerhouse Céline Dion are officially heading to television.
A new scripted drama series, tentatively titled Growing Up Dion, is officially in active development, Deadline reported Thursday. The project marks a historic milestone for the music icon’s estate, representing the first time the Dion family has formally authorized and co-produced a dramatized adaptation of the singer’s early life in Charlemagne, Quebec.
Produced by Los Angeles-based Diamant Rouge Entertainment, the series is spearheaded by Céline’s brother, Jacques Dion, who will serve as an executive producer. The narrative structure is closely adapted from the biographical book Dion, A Family Saga, written by the singer’s nephew, Jimmy Dion, ensuring an intimate, insider perspective on the pop legend’s roots.
1. 14 Siblings and a Musical Household
Veteran television writer Zoë Green has been tapped as showrunner to guide the series, which is currently being shopped to major streaming platforms and international buyers.
Rather than focusing on the stadium-filling glitz of her adult career, Growing Up Dion will anchor itself inside the modest, chaotic, and fiercely loving French-Canadian household that shaped her.
The drama will deeply explore the complex, lively dynamics of a family raised by their matriarch, Thérèse Dion—affectionately known across Canada as “Maman Dion.” Growing up as the youngest of 14 children, Céline’s path to vocal superstardom was forged in an environment where music was the central language, culminating in her mother famously co-writing the singer’s very first French-language track, “Ce n’était qu’un rêve,” when Céline was just 12 years old.
The Family Statement: “This series represents something deeply meaningful for our family, as it captures the spirit, struggles, and love that defined our upbringing,” producer Jacques Dion shared cleanly in a statement. “We are proud to finally share this story with the world in a way that feels true to who we are.”
2. A Massive Year for the Queen of Power Ballads
The announcement of the prequel series caps off what is shaping up to be a monumental year of resurgence for the 58-year-old vocalist, whose recent health battles have kept her largely away from traditional touring.
Dion slowly retreated from live performing after revealing her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare, debilitating neurological disorder that severely impacts muscle control and vocal mechanics—a raw struggle that was captured in the heartbreaking 2024 documentary I Am: Céline Dion.
However, her recovery has progressed remarkably. Earlier this spring, the singer delighted global fans during a birthday video broadcast projected onto the illuminated Eiffel Tower in Paris, confirming her triumphant return to live performance with a five-week limited engagement at the Paris La Défense Arena kicking off this coming September.
3. The On-Screen Legacy
While Growing Up Dion marks the first fully authorized family drama, the singer’s life has frequently served as a muse for both cinema and theater over the last several years.
Development is moving swiftly, though casting details—specifically regarding which young actress will take on the daunting task of portraying the vocal icon during her teenage years—remain under lock and key. Network destinations and a definitive premiere date are expected to be announced later this year as production begins packaging the project for the upcoming television market cycles.
