LOS ANGELES — Prime Video has officially announced that the highly anticipated feature film continuation of its hit espionage franchise, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, will premiere globally on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The film marks the return of John Krasinski as the titular CIA analyst-turned-operative, picking up nearly three years after the conclusion of the series’ fourth season. Directed by Andrew Bernstein, Ghost War is being touted as a “cinematic escalation” of the Jack Ryan universe, featuring larger action set pieces and a high-stakes original screenplay co-written by Krasinski himself.
The Plot: A Reluctant Hero vs. “Starling”
Following his “retirement” from the CIA at the end of Season 4, Jack Ryan is attempting to settle into a quieter life. However, peace is short-lived when a covert international mission goes disastrously wrong, exposing a dangerous conspiracy involving a rogue black-ops unit known as “Starling.”
- The Mission: Forced back into active duty, Ryan must navigate a treacherous web of betrayal as Starling—a group of agents trained for total destruction—begins a campaign of global terror.
- The Scope: Production took place across 2025 in London, Dubai, and New York City, promising a “Bourne-level” scale of car chases and tactical combat.
- The Tone: Insider reports suggest the film focuses heavily on the personal toll of Ryan’s career, making this his most “intimate and high-stakes” mission to date.
Familiar Allies and New Faces
Fans of the original four-season run will see several “battle-tested” favorites return to the field alongside fresh talent.
- The Veterans: Wendell Pierce returns as the legendary James Greer, alongside Michael Kelly as the fan-favorite operative Mike November. Betty Gabriel also reprises her role as Elizabeth Wright.
- The New Partner: Academy Award nominee Sienna Miller joins the cast as Emma Marlowe, a razor-sharp MI6 officer. Her character is described as a “female James Bond” who provides an international perspective—and occasional friction—to Ryan’s methods.
- The Ensemble: The film also stars Max Beesley, JJ Feild, Douglas Hodge, and Mckenna Bridger.
”This isn’t just another season; it’s the culmination of Jack’s journey,” says a production insider. “By moving to a feature film format, we’ve been able to tighten the storytelling and deliver the kind of explosive spectacle that the Tom Clancy name demands.”
A Commercial Milestone
The film’s release is also being marked by significant global collaborations. Earlier this week, Citizen Watch announced a partnership with Prime Video to feature the Eco-Drive ATTESA timepiece in the film—a tool described as mirroring Ryan’s “precision and durability under pressure.”
Whether Ghost War serves as the final chapter for Krasinski’s iteration of the character or the beginning of a new film-based franchise remains a closely guarded secret. For fans who have waited since 2023, the wait ends on May 20.
