LOS ANGELES — Regina Hall has joined the expanding ensemble cast of Lizard Music, an upcoming live-action/CGI hybrid family fantasy film written and directed by Benny Safdie for Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists.
Hall joins previously announced star Dwayne Johnson, alongside newcomer Theo Clark Leber, Alicia Silverstone, and Tim Heidecker.
A Journey into Invisible Worlds
Based on Daniel Pinkwater’s acclaimed 1976 children’s novel of the same name, Lizard Music centers on a young boy named Victor (played by Leber) who is left to his own devices and accidentally stumbles upon a late-night television broadcast of sentient lizards performing otherworldly music.
His quest to uncover the origin of the mysterious broadcast leads him to an eccentric, whimsical septuagenarian known as The Chicken Man—played by Johnson—and his inseparable companion, a 111-year-old chicken named Claudia. Together, the unlikely group embarks on an adventure to locate a secret lizard society, uncovering invisible worlds and magical discoveries along the way.
Hall will portray a friend and co-worker of The Chicken Man.
Behind the Scenes and Production Team
The feature adaptation is written and directed by Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, The Smashing Machine). The project is produced by Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Benny Safdie, Dwayne Johnson, and David Koplan under Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists.
The project marks the second collaboration between Johnson and Safdie, following their partnership on A24’s biographical sports drama The Smashing Machine.
High-Profile Slate for Hall
The casting continues a busy run for Hall following her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s feature One Battle After Another alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn.
She currently stars in Peacock’s drama series The Five-Star Weekend alongside Jennifer Garner and Chloë Sevigny, while her upcoming slate includes Prime Video’s comedy Judgment Day opposite Will Ferrell and Netflix’s limited series Rabbit, Rabbit with Adam Driver.
